Kamtchya

Main

I want to talk about another case from the rechtspraak.nl-website and I will offer some translations. This case is also known as the Kamtchya case. The file as the LJN-number: BJ2954. You can find the file here:

http://www.rechtspraak.nl/ljn.asp?ljn=BJ2954

This case is also mentioned in the report: Misstanden achter de ramen - Een wetenschappelijk onderzoek naar de slachtoffers van Bulgaarse vrouwenhandelaren, welke in Groningen en Friesland opereren written by Marije Bekker (2010) for the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. You can find the file here:

http://rechten.eldoc.ub.rug.nl/FILES/root/2010/missacder/ScriptieMarijeBekker.pdf

What happened took place between 2004 and 2008 in Friesland and Rotterdam. The victims mainly worked as call-girls. But also window brothels pop up. The names of the cities are removed from the testimonies. There are no window brothels in Rotterdam, so probably window brothels in Leeuwarden are meant. There is one pimp, and eigh victims. He has been acquitted of several crimes, related to victim 1, victim 4, victim 7 and victim 8. Sentence: four years? The house of the pimp probably is in Rotterdam, where also the escort activities take place. The pimp is called Nikolai in the report of Marije Bekker. Victim 2 is called Lala. Victim 3 is called Svetlana. Victim 6 is called Emila (her real name seems to be Mihaylova judging from the rechtspraak.nl-file, so the names mentioned by Marije Bekker don't seem to be the genuine names). All the victims are Bulgarian, except for Mila who is from Romania.
By the way: a club is mentioned, but this is not a club, it is a window brothel. The file has many duplicate texts. It is very chaotic. Also, there are introductory lines before the testimonies of the women. I simplified these lines because they are written in a very complicated lawful language.
And what about my conscience? The verdict file has no influence, I'm still as hard as a rock or as cold as ice.

Here are some translations of the verdict:

Testimony of (victim 2):
I want to report the crime of human trafficking to the police. I come from Bulgaria. I lived with my grandmother in Sofia. I didn't have a father or mother anymore. My grandmother sent me to a shelter in Germany. I met a Turkish girl there. Two days after my arrival she introduced me to a man named (name of suspect). I want to report this (name of suspect) to the police. (Name of suspect) is 32 years old. His real first name is (first name of suspect). Everybody calls him (name of suspect). (Name of suspect) is a Roma, a gypsy, from Bulgaria. He is remarkably thin and he has very short black curly hair. He has a very large number of tattoos. (Name of suspect) wanted me to work for him as a prostitute in Germany. I refused to work for him. That's why he regularly beat me. (Name of suspect) has brought me to the Netherlands. We arrived in (city of residence of suspect). He took me to his house. The house number of that house was (house number). (Name of suspect) has snatched my identity card from me. That evening (name of suspect) took me to (name of bar). (Name of suspect) sat at the bar opposite to me and arranged clients for me. When he had a client for me, then he brought me with his car to the house of his brother-in-law. I had to have sex in there with the clients. The clients paid 300 euro to (name of the suspect) to be allowed to have sex with me for two hours. I received nothing of that money. I believe that in those two days I had more than 15 clients who had sex with me. (Name of suspect) beat me when I was in his house. He beat so hard that I lost consciousness. After this, I fled outside.

Testimony of (victim 2):
At home I was poor. I've only been on school for three years. I don't have parents anymore. I don't know when I was born. I lived with my grandmother, but I also often slept outside. On June the 18th or the 19th in 2007, I departed from Bulgaria to Germany. In Germany (name of suspect) put me under pressure for the whole month. During our third contact (name of suspect) said that he was a pimp and that he wanted me to also work for him. I said to him that I didn't want that. Nevertheless, he kept putting pressure on me. He said to me multiple times that I had to accompany him to the Netherlands to work for him. During that time he has beaten me five times, on my neck and on my left upper arm. He threatened to sell me to Albanians. At a certain moment (name of suspect) took me to the Netherlands. I accompanied him because he threatened me very often. He would know how to find me anyway and then beat me. I was afraid of him, because he beat me very hard. In the car (name of suspect) has beaten me multiple times.

Testimony of (victim 2)
I have worked for (name of suspect) in (place). (Name of suspect) was also in the neighbourhood then. He sat in the room behind my workroom. (Name of suspect) said to me that I had to do what he said or else he would do something bad to my family and especially to my grandmother. I have worked five days for (name of suspect).
(Name of suspect) told me in his house in (city of residence of suspect) that I was bought by him. (Name of suspect) then told me that I had to work as a prostitute for (name of suspect) to earn that money back. If I wouldn't work, he would sell me to Albanians. Albanians in fact have been in the house that evening. I then fled to the toilet and locked myself up. The Albanians left and I agreed that I would work for (name of suspect). I have been coerced to do this. I didn't want to, but I had no other choice. (Name of suspect) brought me to the clients and he also picked me up again. The clients paid to (name of suspect). I had to have sex with a client, but I didn't want to. (Name of suspect) became very angry at me and he beat me. After this, (victim 5) went to that client for free. The first evening I had as many as 10 or 11 clients. Since the third day I worked in the house of the brother-in-law of (name of suspect). (Name of suspect) brought the clients to that house. That house was locked when I was there. A cousin of (name of suspect), named (name of cousin), was in that house and he kept an eye on me. I had approximately a total number of 10 clients in a day. I worked seven days a week. I simply kept on working when I was menstruating, (victim 5) had bought a sponge for me. That sponge hurt a lot. When the clients started to complain, I was beaten by (name of suspect) and I had to use the sponge. The clients paid in advance to (name of suspect). I have never received anything of it. Shortly after I arrived in (city of residence of the suspect) I was locked up by (name of suspect) for two days in a cellar without food and drink. He then beat me very badly with a belt. That was in the cellar of his own house. There was no bed, there was only waste. Also, I simply had to urinate and defecate there.

Testimony of (victim 2):
(Name of suspect) has called me (work name of victim 2). Everybody knows me as (work name of victim 2). I believe I have worked for slightly more than a month in (place). We slept above the display windows. All the money that we earned, we gave to (name of suspect). That's what every girl did. (Name of suspect) didn't check how many clients I had received, but if I would buy something, he would find out anyway and then I would be maltreated. I received 10 euro per day for cigarettes and food. (Name of suspect) paid for staying over the night. Namely, I received money from (name of suspect) to pay the owner of the windows. I had many clients. I earned between 1000 and 1500 euro per day and I worked from 07.00 until 01.00 hours. I worked seven days a week. The clients paid 50 euro per quarter of an hour.

Testimony of (victim 2):
(Name of suspect) wanted to take my rings off my hands. When this failed, (name of suspect) deliberately burnt me with a cigarette on my wrist. I have worked for two months in (place) and for three or four months in (name of bar).

A report of a wiretapped conversation on January 10, 2008:
NN man (the one who phoned first): "hello (name of suspect), do you have a girl?"
(Name of suspect): "yes"
NN man: "but must it be a new girl?"
(name of suspect): "how many girls do you need?"
NN man: "the client wants her for the whole night"
(name of suspect): "then say to the client that I do want to do (victim 5) for him"
(name of suspect): "where does that man live, does he live far away?"
NN man: "the man is in (place)"
(Name of suspect): "is that the same man to whom you brought (victim 2)? He does want (victim 5)"

Testimony of (victim 3):
In the summer of 2007 (work name of victim 2) came working in (place). (Work name of victim 2) worked in a room on the opposite of me. (Work name of victim 2) told me that (name of suspect) had bought her in Germany and that she was his second girl. (Work name of victim 2) worked for a couple of days in (place), and then (name of suspect) took her with him again and brought her back again. I was taken along by (victim 6) and stepped into the car in which (name of suspect) was sitting. Then (name of suspect) drove to (city of residence of suspect). During that night, I ended up in a house. In that house were present (name of suspect), his brother, his sister-in-law, (victim 6), (work name of victim 2) and me. I already knew (victim 5) and (work name of victim 2) from (place). I've seen that (name of suspect) maltreated (victim 5) and (work name of victim 2). (Work name of victim 2), (victim 6) and also (victim 5) worked without a condom. (Name of suspect) wasn't satisfied and (name of suspect) said that both women, (work name of victim 2) as well as (victim 5), earned little money. (Victim 5) and (work name of victim 2) are Gypsy girls. Women must obey to all that the men say. They had to earn money for the man. The girls are afraid of the men. They are very afraid. Especially, that they will be avenged as soon as they are in Bulgaria. The men say to them, that as soon as we are home, that they will catch the women, murder them. They just all say that they will take revenge when the women don't comply. The role of the woman in the Gypsy culture is to listen and to carry out. The girls who work for or have worked for (name of suspect), have all been exploited by him. Exploited, maltreated and kidnapped and forced to work in prostitution. When the girls don't want to listen, they are sold by (name of suspect). Being sold to Albanians is absolutely terrible. That would mean that the girl has to work for Albanians and has to earn the money back. Otherwise you are being murdered. Albanians are known for their cruelties; they are violent towards the girls. (Work name of victim 2) has fled from the house in (city of residence of suspect) after a quarrel with (name of suspect). (Work name of victim 2) didn't want to work. She then had to surrender her golden rings to (name of suspect). She had six or seven rings. She refused this, after which (name of suspect) pulled the rings off her hand with the use of violence. I could witness this all. I have seen that (victim 5) and (work name of victim 2) were terribly beaten by (name of suspect) and maltreated with a clenched fist in the stomach.

Testimony of (victim 5) or (victim 3) (?????????????, this is unclear from the text):
After this, he took (victim 2) with him to the bedroom and I heard that (name of suspect) started to shout against her and that she shouted back in panic. She came outside while she was crying. You show me tens of  photos. I recognise the girl on photo number 11 as (work name of victim 2).

Testimony of (victim 6):
I heard and only noticed later on that more girls worked for (name of suspect), such as (victim 5) and (work name of victim 2). That was in the house of (name of suspect) in (city of residence of suspect). (Victim 5) and (work name of victim 2) at first also worked as a prostitute in (place). I know that (name of suspect) has threatened multiple women and has lured them. (Name of suspect) is a pimp. He has used and abused multiple women. He took all my earned money from me. He also took the money from other girls.

Testimony of (victim 6):
I went to work in a bar in (city of residence of suspect). The name of that bar was (name of bar). (Victim 5) and (work name of victim 2) also worked there. (Name of suspect) has abused (victim 3), (victim 5), (work name of victim 2) and myself. (Name of suspect) once said to me that, if I didn't listen to him, he would sell me to Albanians. I have heard that Albanians are terrible people. They force their girls to use drugs and they do the most terrible things with their girls.

Testimony of (victim 6) Mihaylova:
(Victim 5), (work name of victim 2), (victim 3) and I had to hand over our earned money to (name of suspect). That did happen.

Testimony of (victim 3):
I want to report the crime of human trafficking perpetrated by a man whom I know as (name of suspect) and his girlfriend (victim 6). I am named (victim 3). In Bulgaria I was a member of a poor family. Because there were many children, we were very poor. So I simply had to go away to earn money. In July 2007, I came to the Netherlands. I would be working in prostitution. I wanted to work for myself. I first worked in Brussels. Two nieces had brought me to (place). They arranged the trip. They have helped me to come here. The girls dropped me off at the workplace in (place). They told me that I could stay the night in the display window. After this, they went back. I went to work in prostitution in (place). I was left to my own devices and I had to fend for myself. (Victim 6) also worked for (name of suspect). She worked in the (name of club) in the prostitution area in (place). I was taken along by (victim 6) and stepped into the car in which (name of suspect) was sitting. Then (name of suspect) drove to (city of residence of suspect). During the night I ended up in a house. In that house were present (name of brother), his brother, his sister-in-law, (victim 6), (work name of the victim 2) and I. When I came in (city of residence of suspect), I knew that something was going to happen to me, something bad. (Name of suspect) said to me that there was a client, a Turk. (Name of suspect) then brought me to that Turk. (Name of suspect) said that I had to work because there was a client. "You have to work for me" said (name of suspect). I was afraid, scared. I didn't want to go. I was afraid that he would maltreat me. We went to a bar. (Name of suspect) brought (victim 5) and me to the bar. The clients were visited at home. I was brought by (name of suspect) to a client if the client made an appointment with (name of suspect). (Name of suspect) received the money from the client.
When I had to work, I said to (name of suspect) that I had no condoms. (Name of suspect) said that I just had to do it this way. I received from (victim 5) three condoms and so for the rest I was forced to work without condom. That's what the clients wanted according to (name of suspect).
In (place) I have never worked without a condom, but in (city of residence of suspect) I suddenly was in a very different situation. In (city of residence of suspect) I have worked with a condom for only three times, and for the rest of the clients without a condom. I have received approximately 5 or 6 clients per day. I have worked a total number of three days for him and I have earned 700 euro in total. I have received nothing myself of that money. In the bar I was always together with (name of suspect).
(Name of suspect) was always in my neighbourhood, both at home and in the bar. Also, he always brought me to the clients and picked me up again. The clients paid to (name of suspect). (Name of suspect) made the appointment with the client, he brought me and then the clients paid immediately. (Name of suspect) has intimidated me with the fact that he would sell me if I didn't listen. I could hear that he had a telephone conversation with a man to sell me. He said that he had a beautiful blonde girl for sale and I then knew that (name of suspect) meant me, because I was the only blonde girl he had. After the telephone conversation, I heard from (name of suspect) that he had sold me and that the man was underway to pick me up. I started to cry and I was gasping for air. Luckily that man didn't show up, and that evening I simply went to work at the command of (name of suspect). Being sold to Albanians is absolutely terrible. That would mean that the girl has to work for Albanians and has to earn the money back. Otherwise you are being murdered. Albanians are known for their cruelties; they are violent towards the girls. I report (name of suspect) to the police. (Name of suspect) has forced me to work in prostitution and actually without a condom. Besides, he has threatened and exploited me. I wasn't left with any money from the work that I had to do for him. I was kidnapped by (name of suspect) to (city of residence of suspect) and was locked up in his house. He supervised all the movements I made. I wasn't allowed to go anywhere without him.

Testimony of (victim 3):
I was invited by (victim 6) to drink coffee. We then stepped into the car in which (name of suspect) was sitting. Before I knew it, we had driven out of the city. I felt that I was kidnapped. I had no way to go. I begged (victim 6) to let me step out of the car, but she didn't do anything for me. I recognised (name of suspect) as the pimp of (victim 5), and in the meantime I knew his violent reputation. After arriving in (city of residence of suspect), (name of suspect) said to me that I had to work for him. (Victim 5), (victim 6) and I were brought by (name of suspect) to a bar in (city of residence of suspect). I was constantly supervised and I had no way to go. (Name of suspect) arranged the clients by telephone or in the bar, and he brought me to the fuck-place. Most of the time the fuck-places were in the houses of the clients. He brought me to the clients and also picked me up there again. The clients paid to (name of suspect).

Testimony of (victim 3):
I have seen that (victim 5) was beaten by (name of suspect).

Testimony of (victim 6):
At a certain moment, another girl from (place) came to (city of residence of suspect). Her name is (victim 3). (Name of suspect) asked me if I wanted to invite (victim 3) to drink coffee. I then went to (victim 3) and I have asked it to (victim 3). (Victim 3) did want it. When we arrived at (name of suspect)'s place, this drinking of coffee turned out to be in (city of residence of suspect).
Then (victim 3) and I went together with (name of suspect) and another boy to (city of residence of suspect). (Victim 3) didn't want to accompany us to (city of residence of suspect) and she started to scream. She became angry at (name of suspect). She didn't want to work there. She indicated in the car that she didn't want to accompany us.
I got the impression that (victim 3) was afraid. In (city of residence of suspect) we went to the house of (name of suspect). His brother and his wife and two other friends of (name of suspect) were present there. (Name of suspect) told that same evening to (victim 3) that she had to work as a prostitute in (name of bar). She has worked there together with (victim 5), (work name of victim 2) and myself.
I believe that (victim 3) has worked there for 3 days. After this, I heard from (name of suspect) that he had brought her back to (place). (Name of suspect) has abused (victim 3), (victim 5), (work name of victim 2) and me.
(Name of suspect) had discussed with me in advance what he intended to do with (victim 3). He only wanted that I let her know that (name of suspect) wanted to drink coffee with her.

Testimony of several police sergeants/detectives of the regional police Fryslân, working at the Mensenhandel Interventie Team (human trafficking intervention team):
Around November 2008 I, officer (officer), received a report by telephone of the female manager of "(name of club)", (name of female manager). She then notified that the Bulgarian girl of room 23 did a moonlight flit a day before, leaving all her belongings behind, including her gsm (mobile telephone). According to the female manager she left together with another Bulgarian girl, and possibly in the direction of (city of residence of suspect). The female manager notified furthermore, that it wasn't unusual that a girl left for a couple of days, but that most of the time this was notified to her. In this case she knew nothing about it, and while collecting the rent it turned out that the lights in the room were still burning, and also the TV was still switched on. The personalia of that particular girl were passed on by the female manager. It turned out to be (victim 3), born on (date of birth) in Bulgaria. Several days later I, officer (officer), was again approached by telephone by the female manager (name of female manager) with the announcement that (victim 3) had returned and that indeed she had been in (city of residence of suspect) a couple of days.

Testimony of (victim 5):
I know (name of suspect) from Bulgaria. In January 2007, I fled with (name of suspect) to the Netherlands. I fled out of sheer necessity, because my husband didn't want to work and this way I was forced to work. I knew beforehand that I would be working as a prostitute in the Netherlands. In the Netherlands I have worked in prostitution in (city of residence of suspect) and in (place). (Name of suspect) sold my body to clients. He was my pimp. A pimp is a person who sells girls to clients. I resided in the house of (name of suspect). He maltreated me because I didn't want to work. I found the work disgusting. When I had problems with clients, he brought me back home and beat me up again. When I didn't want to be with a client, then (name of suspect) slapped me with the flat of his hand. Once, (name of suspect) stabbed me with a knife, because I had stomachache and couldn't do the work with the client and that's why the client asked his money back. As a result of this, he stabbed me with a knife in my right thighbone when I arrived home. I often had sex against my will with (name of suspect). If I didn't want this, he would beat me. With the fists, with the belt, on my body, on my back. In (place) I worked as a prostitute in a house. In that house, also a prostitute worked. Her name is (victim 3). (Victim 3) works for herself. I wasn't allowed by (name of suspect) to mix with (victim 3). He prohibited this, so that I wouldn't stop to work for him. I wanted to go back to Bulgaria because he maltreated me. I said to him that I wanted to go back to Bulgaria to see my children. I couldn't go back. I knew nothing about the buses and he had friends with buses. I couldn't organise the trip myself. I didn't go to the police out of fear. Then they would apprehend him and release him again. If he would come home then, he would beat me up again. For one hour, the client had to pay 50 euro. (Name of suspect) received the money from the clients.
He took my money away from me. I had four or five clients a day. I worked every day. When I was menstruating, I also worked. I had no choice, but if I could choose myself, I wouldn't work when I was menstruating. Per month he sent 50 euro to my family in Bulgaria. When I came back in Bulgaria, I had 200 euro. That amount of money was for 4 months. I didn't report the crime to the police. Not in the Netherlands and also not in Bulgaria. I was afraid of (name of suspect). He threatened that he would kidnap my child. I worked out of fear for him. That fear comes from the many times that I was beaten up and the many threats. He threatened to beat me up. I became pregnant of a client and I let myself be aborted in Bulgaria.

Testimony of (victim 2):
(Victim 5) resided in the house of (name of suspect) in (city of residence of suspect). I have seen that (name of suspect) beat (victim 5). I have seen that as often as 3, 4 or 5 times. He beat her in a very mean way. He beat her very hard and then she became unwell and then (name of suspect) threw water over her. I have seen that she had a swollen upper lip and a bruise on her cheek. Once, he also stabbed her with a knife in her upper leg. She has scars on her whole body.

Testimony of (victim 2):
(Victim 5) and (victim 6) has also worked in (place). We all slept on the second floor. All the money that we earned we handed over to (name of suspect).

Testimony of (victim 1):
I can declare to you that (victim 5) has been maltreated a number of times by (name of suspect). She was locked up by him and then she was threatened with death. I have also seen that (victim 5) was beaten and/or maltreated by (name of suspect).

Testimony of (victim 1):
I was present there several times when (name of suspect) beat (victim 5). Once, I also snatched a knife out of his hands when he wanted to stab (victim 5) with this knife. While doing this, he made a stabbing movement towards (victim 5).

Testimony of (victim 3):
I went to work in prostitution in (place). (Victim 5) worked in the room next to mine. (Name of suspect) has visited (victim 5) approximately 4 times. I could follow the conversations between them. It was always about money, how much money had been earned, and there were screams. I found (victim 5) pitiful because she was very scared of (name of suspect). After (name of suspect) visited (victim 5), I wanted to exchange money with her for a client, but (victim 5) had no money at all. That could only mean that he took her money from her.
When (name of suspect) didn't come by, I could always exchange money. (Name of suspect) has personally warned (victim 5) not to visit me. He knew that I worked for myself and she wasn't allowed by him to have contact with me. (Name of suspect) brought (victim 5) and me to the bar. The clients were visited at home. (Work name of victim 2), (victim 6) and also (victim 5) worked without a condom. I have seen that (name of suspect) maltreated (victim 5) and (work name of victim 2). (Name of suspect) beat (victim 5), he maltreated her because of the work. (Name of suspect) wasn't satisfied and (name of suspect) said that both, (work name of victim 2) and (victim 5), earned little money. (Victim 5) and (work name of victim 2) are Gypsy girls. The women must obey to all that the men say. They had to earn money for the man.
The girls are afraid of the men. They are trained like that. They are very afraid. Especially that they will be avenged as soon as they are in Bulgaria.
(Name of suspect) has intimidated me with the fact that he would sell me if I wouldn't listen. I could hear that he had a conversation by telephone with a man to sell me. Being sold to Albanians is absolutely terrible. That would mean that the girl has to work for Albanians and has to earn the money back. Otherwise you are being murdered. Albanians are known for their cruelties; they are violent towards the girls.

Testimony of (victim 6):
I heard that more girls worked for (name of suspect), such as (victim 5) and (work name of victim 2). That was in the house of (name of suspect) in (city of residence of suspect). (Victim 5) and (work name of victim 2) also worked in (place). They worked in (name of club).

Testimony of (victim 6):
(Victim 5) and (work name of victim 2) also worked for (name of suspect) in (city of residence of suspect) in (name of bar). (Victim 5) worked without a condom. She already did this in (place). The clients wanted this, and she did that. I have heard that Albanians are the most terrible people. They force their girls to use drugs and they do the most terrible things with their girls.

Testimony of (victim 6):
I didn't follow school. In total I have spent one day on school. I can't read, write or calculate. I've never learned that. In the summer of 2007, I came to work in (place). I have worked there until approximately the autumn of 2007. I got to know (name of suspect) in (place). He regularly came to me at my work in (place). He was friendly. I believed that he wanted a relationship with me and that he wanted me as a wife.
At first, (name of suspect) said that he loved me and that he felt a lot for me. At that moment, I believed it was real love. After a month he said he loved me. I accompanied him to (city of residence of suspect). I did know that there were girls in (place) who worked for a pimp, but I didn't know it was (name of suspect). I have also worked for (name of suspect) in (city of residence of suspect). (Name of suspect) asked if I wanted to work for him and to prevent quarrels, I just worked for him then. I went to work for (name of suspect) in a bar, (name of bar). (Name of suspect) arranged the telephone calls and I went to a client. (Name of suspect) has abused (victim 3), (victim 5), (work name of victim 2) and me.
(Name of suspect) once said to me that, if I didn't listen to him, he would sell me to Albanians. I have heard that Albanians are terrible people. They force their girls to use drugs and they do the most terrible things with their girls. It is generally known to the girls that Albanians are very bad people, whom you should be afraid of. (Name of suspect) beat me once.
I was forced by (name of suspect) to be available for 24 hours a day to work. I also worked when I was menstruating. If I would have worked independently, I wouldn't have done that.

Testimony of (victim 6):
The money I earned in (place) before I got to know (name of suspect), was completely for myself. The money I earned in (city of residence of suspect), went completely to (name of suspect). I was afraid of (name of suspect). I was the one who worked and brought in money. He didn't work and he brought in nothing. (Name of suspect) simply was my pimp.

Testimony of (victim 2):
In (name of bar) in (city of residence of suspect), two other girls worked for (name of suspect), namely (victim 5) and (victim 6). (Victim 6) worked in a brothel where (name of suspect) has kidnapped her. (Victim 6) and (victim 5) also go to the house of the brother-in-law of (name of suspect) with their clients to have sex there.

Testimony of (victim 2):
In approximately November 2007, (name of suspect) has picked (victim 6) up from (place) and brought her to (city of residence of suspect). From that time on, (victim 6) went working in (city of residence of suspect).
(Name of suspect) has said to me that he was going to (place) to get a new girl. I do know that (victim 6) didn't want to come to (city of residence of suspect). I know that (name of suspect) has made a lot of effort for her. (Victim 6) also worked in (name of bar). All the money that (victim 6) earned, went to (name of suspect). I mean really everything. He did pay some cheap clothing and make-up, but aside of that, the girls received nothing. He bought expensive things for himself. At first, I worked in (place) as a prostitute. (Victim 5) and (victim 6) then also worked there. All the money that we earned, we gave to (name of suspect). I collected the money of the whole day. That's what every girl did.

Testimony of (victim 3):
I got to know (victim 6) in October 2007 in (place). She worked there as a prostitute. (Victim 6) also worked for (name of suspect). (Victim 6) later worked for (name of suspect) in (city of residence of suspect). We worked in (name of bar). All girls worked in (city of residence of suspect) without a condom. (Victim 6) also worked without a condom.

A testimony of Petra in the report of Marije Bekker:
I never received any cash money from Nikolai. I received food and a place to live from him. I once received a little golden ring from him, worth 40 euro. I have seen another ring however, which was much more beautiful, but cost 60 euro. I didn't get this one because it was too expensive. A short while later we went to a goldsmith where he bought a heavy golden ring for himself. During Christmas, I received a banknote of a hundred euro from him. I had to buy a present of this money for him, a golden ring among other things. That's what I did then.
(…)
Nikolai has maltreated me badly; he pulled my hair, pressed out cigarettes on my legs, kicked me everywhere and pounded in my kidneys. When I lay down on the floor to protect myself, he went standing with his shoes on my bare toes. I was also abused by him. The violence became worse and worse. When, for example, I didn't clean the washbasin properly enough, he would beat me already. When he beat me, he just kept on beating. Once he had to go to Belgium. Then I felt like a queen. When I received a telephone call from him a short while later, the fear started again. I then started to clean and I finished all little corners. After this, I sat down while I was trembling and I thought about what I would say if something wasn't good.

The report of Marije Bekker further explains:
About possible reprisals she explains that Nikolai said that he would be able to find her in Bulgaria. He threatened that he would pick up her mother and would let her mother work in prostitution. He also phoned to her mother; he has said to her that he would stab her because Petra was supposed to owe him 4000 euro.

A testimony of Lala in the report of Marije Bekker:
Once he became so angry that he beat me terribly with a belt and he locked me up for two days in the cellar of his house, without food and drink. In the cellar, there was no bed and there was only waste there. I also had to urinate and defecate there. I was there for two days while nobody came looking. I could see through the little window that two days had gone by. I didn't shout for help when I was locked up, that didn't cross my mind. He has beaten me so often that I didn't shout for help anymore. It only became worse. Once he wanted to snatch the rings off my hands. When this didn't work, because I kept my fists clenched, he burnt me with a cigarette on my wrists and hit me hard on my back. Despite the fact that I felt a lot of pain, I quickly removed the rings from my fingers and put them in my mouth. He tried to take the rings out of my mouth by deliberately squeezing in my cheeks with a lot of force. Because of this squeezing, I developed two open spots on my cheeks. Furthermore, Nikolai beat me every day because I didn't want to accompany clients.

The report of Marije Bekker further explains:
Lala from the Kamtchya investigation tells that once she resided in a shelter in Germany. Many pimps roamed around this house who constantly asked her to work in prostitution. She didn't want to do this. She met a girl here who introduced her to Nikolai. Lala believes that this girl sold her to him. Nikolai has forced her to accompany him in the car. He has beaten her in her neck which caused her to be unconscious for a couple of hours during the trip to the Netherlands. After arriving in the Netherlands, he first raped her two times before he offered her to other men.
The other kidnap took place by the same perpetrator, helped by his girlfriend ('first girl'). Svetlana worked independently as a prostitute in Leeuwarden. There she got to know the girlfriend of Nikolai, Emila. At one moment she was invited by her to drink coffee somewhere. They then stepped into the car in which Nikolai was sitting, after which she was kidnapped to Rotterdam. 'By looking at Emila it was clear that she had fulfilled her role; she received money for this in the car. I begged her to let me out, but she did nothing for me. After arriving in Rotterdam, Nikolai said that I had to work for him.'
(…)
Emila from the Kamtchya investigation is an example of this. She helped the perpetrator by keeping an eye on the other women and helped him with the kidnapping of one victim from Leeuwarden to Rotterdam. As an illustration, a segment of a testimony from this investigation: 'Emila is a pimp. She collected the money of the other girls and gave the money to Nikolai, the suspect that was found guilty of human trafficking by the court. Doesn't that mean that she is also a pimp herself? '
(…)
In another investigation, the female manager of a brothel offered the victims and perpetrators a place to live in her own house. (In the Kamtchya investigation)
