No link between testosterone and sex drive

Main

I have to apologize to all the women in the world.

I must conclude after hours of deliberating with myself that there cannot be a link between the level of testosterone in your blood and your sex drive. That means that my proposition that women have the sex drive of ten-year-old children cannot hold.

The evidence:

THE EXISTENCE OF FEMALE PORN ADDICTS

If it were true that there was a relationship between testosterone and sex drive, there cannot ever be female porn addicts.

I already found reports which show the surprising results that men and women with higher testosterone levels don't have a higher libido (at least, very little, see this post for the sources).

However, there are men who have a disfunction which causes their bodies (balls) to produce less testosterone, so their testosterone levels are way lower than those of any other guy, but still higher than those of many women. These men have a low libido. My current explanation is that this is caused by the fact that men's bodies have difficulties functioning properly with low levels of testosterone, which has the indirect effect that their libido drop.

At last, why do women seem less interested in watching porn, having sex in general and visiting (male) prostitutes? It cannot have any other reason than because somehow society teaches them to be that way.

An example of a female porn addict:
Struggling Alone with Pornography - A female student talks about her addiction to pornography. By Jennifer M. (on everystudent.com)

Some interesting articles:
Addiction to porn is not limited to men (Lancaster Online Jul 06, 2008)
Porn: It's Not Just for Men Anymore (on 'Humanism by Joe', Joseph C. Sommer, Author, Attorney at Law, Humanist)
66% of women watch porn (By Dulcie Pearce, The Sun, 2 April 2009), from this survey it emerges that a quarter of the men watch porn every day, and 6% of the women watch it every day! That is a difference, but that 6% surprises me a lot!

(Here's one interesting survey too among college students:
College student attitudes toward pornography use [College Student Journal, June, 2007 by Sarah O'Reilly, David Knox, Marty E. Zusman]. This one says that: "Their frequency of viewing pornography was also higher with 31.7% % of men and 3.8% of women reporting that they view pornography three to five times a week". So here the differences are bigger.)

And, actually there turns out to be no link between testosterone and violence too!!! Because lesbian couples are on average at least as violent as heterosexual couples (funny, I didn't know that):
Study: Intimate violence greater for gays, lesbians than heteros (digital journal, by Carol Forsloff, April 29 2010)

And also ..... women are not choosier than men when it comes to picking a lover! An experiment with a speed date revealed that when women rotate instead of men, women become less choosy than men. So it seems that the thought that women are naturally much more choosy than men is not true. This is probably caused by social conditioning too! Source:
Role reversal undermines speed-dating theories (Nature, July 2nd 2009)
This is probably the report:
Arbitrary Social Norms Influence Sex Differences in Romantic Selectivity (Eli J. Finkel and Paul W. Eastwick, Northwestern University, in Psychological Science, Volume 20—Number 10, pages 1290-1295, 2009)

Quote from nature article: "The researchers established 15 speed-dating events for 350 young adults. During eight events, men rotated around the seated women, and during seven events, women moved between seated men. When men rotated, men said yes 50% of the time and women said yes 43% of the time. However, when women rotated, the trend for higher female selectivity vanished, with men saying yes 43% of the time while women said yes 45% of the time."

Quote from Psychological Science report: "In a recent, large-scale study of on-line dating behavior, for example, men were approximately 1.5 times more likely than women to send a first-contact e-mail after viewing a given opposite-sex person's on-line dating profile—an effect that is all the more striking when considering that men browsed approximately twice as many profiles in the first place (Hitsch, Hortac¸su, & Ariely, 2009). In a well-controlled study, men were more willing than women to go on a date with an attractive opposite-sex target depicted in a photograph (Townsend & Wasserman, 1998). In addition, across three samples, men were approximately 1.2 times more likely than women (58% vs. 48%) to accept a date from an opposite-sex research confederate who approached them on campus (R.D. Clark, 1990; R.D. Clark & Hatfield, 1989)."

After reading all this am I totally surprised. I thought that women were FAR MORE choosy about picking men than men were about picking women, like 10 times or a 100 times more choosy. It turns out that this is only one and a half times more choosy. That is in my opinion not much. And even this is probably influenced by social factors.

Women and men are more alike than I thought. Perhaps that women and men have an in-born sex identity, but perhaps they don't differ much more.

Females who are turning into porn addicts isn't really something new. Most of these women are obviously curious and are lacking significant attention. These women must engaged themselves into activities such as sports or some other form of recreational activities to avoid such addiction.

Yes, or meet people!

But, now that I'm thinking more about it, testosterone must DEFINITELY have an influence on sex drive because most castrated men loose their sex drive!

link to a report

It's funny to see that 10% of castrated men keep their high sex drive, as if testosterone has no influence on them. Perhaps this could be true for some women also, they have a high sex drive despite their low testosterone levels.
